Lyreco Goodness Transparent

Lyreco Goodness is about always doing the right thing – not just for our customers, but for our people, our communities, and our planet. It’s at the heart of everything we do, and it guides every choice we make.

This also extends to who we are as people, and we have a proud history of actively supporting local charities and businesses both here in the UK & Ireland, and further afield.

Through our actions, the spirit of Lyreco Goodness is helping drive us to create a better tomorrow for everyone.

Andrew Bryers, Lyreco's new Head of Corporate Social Responsibility

The dedication to supporting the community, reducing carbon emissions and initiatives to enhance employee wellbeing is already well integrated into Lyreco’s culture.

Over the next 12 months I am committed to engage with our key beneficiaries to make sure that Lyreco, and our suppliers, are aligned to reducing our global impact whether sociably, economically, or environmentally.

Andrew Bryers
Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

The development and articulation of the overarching programme that we call Lyreco Goodness gives us the opportunity to clearly communicate our ambition, our objectives, and our priorities. We want to lead our industry on this agenda. Lyreco strives to have a positive impact on all our beneficiaries, making economic, social, environmental, and cultural responsibilities a priority.

Our impact is large, however our potential to improve our planet is great.

Learn more about Lyreco Goodness

Lyreco Goodness is not about hitting targets or being legally compliant, it’s the ‘extra mile’ achievements made by all within the Lyreco community.

This document brings together our core targets and commitments of Lyreco UK & Ireland, and at Group level into six main objective themes. It also indicates where we are with certain commitments, as well as give you a glimpse of some of the great initiatives that some of our suppliers are doing.

Lyreco Goodness Objectives

The work being implemented through Lyreco Goodness is structured around supporting our beneficiaries, or whom we exist to serve. We have defined a set of six objectives that each support one or more of our four main benefits and our four beneficiaries: staff, suppliers, customers and our community or our people and the planet.

Click the objectives to learn more.

Circular Economy

The integration of Circular Economy in our business is a strong enabler to achieve Lyreco sustainable goals. We make commitments to help our customers make faster progress towards a drastic reduction of non-recyclable waste in the workplace.

100% of our product families will have at least one ‘recycle-ready’ item by 2025.

Inclusive Lyreco

This objective focuses on integrating equality and inclusion throughout Lyreco and making sure that the same is adopted throughout our supply chain. We consider the respect and fair treatment of all employees as a key priority to achieve employee and customer excellence. Valuing employees’ opinion and ensuring a constructive dialogue are essential to support this purpose.

Products for the People, Planet and Communities

Our products must generate sustainable benefits for society and the planet. With 90% of our product range meeting our definition of sustainability by 2025; with an interim target of increasing our current sustainable product range by 50% by 2022.

Becoming Carbon Neutral

Lyreco is committed to reducing our consumption of natural resources such as water and energy. Our objectives include reducing our fleet emissions, enhancing our biodiversity around all our sites and neighbouring areas, and continually reviewing our offsetting options.

Sustainable Communities

Wherever we operate, we strive to leave a positive legacy. Our community investment consists of engagement through activities such as volunteering, mentoring and charitable fundraising. This offers our people opportunities to learn and develop, as well as give something back.

Microbusiness Support Programme

In order to play a small part in supporting micro businesses, Lyreco is launching the Lyreco Goodness Micro Business Support Programme. We will be sponsoring 10 new UK and Irish Micro Businesses, providing a wide range of support to help develop their offerings.

Our Green Products

In 2021 Lyreco had 2,459 products that were classed as sustainable using our ‘Green Tree’ logo either through their packaging or product manufacturing. In 2022 we have increased the percentage of sustainable and/or socially responsible products by 50%.

However, we are currently reviewing our Green Tree logo and in the process of strengthening our sustainable product assessment to provide customers with a greater transparency of what they are buying. To support this move we have created two new logos…

Lyreco Great for People Icon
  • Support a charity or community scheme through donations from product purchases
  • Enhance the wellbeing of colleagues
  • Adapted to support those with disabilities or long-term health conditions
  • Are certified to a standard, or the manufacturing facilities are audited to support workers’ rights, especially those in developing countries
Lyreco Great for People Icon
  • Compostable, degradable and can go through anaerobic digestion
  • Can easily be dissembled, with most of its components being reused or recycled
  • Made up of recycled material
  • Made from more than 50% renewable materials such as hemp, flax, newspaper, wool
  • Certified to a sustainable accreditation such as Cradle to Cradle, FSC etc

Our Charity Partners

Through our fundraising and volunteering works, we go beyond the delivery of providing workplace solutions to make a difference in local communities. As part of our ambition to impact society and to empower our people to give something back to the communities we work in, we’ve partnered with WorkingRite as our Lyreco lead charity.

Within each of our four product categories we have also partnered with Lighthouse Club, Mental Health Foundation, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Shrewsbury Ark

LEADING THE WAY IN SUSTAINABILITY

Lightbulb gif

Here at Lyreco HQ we’re always looking for innovative ideas to develop our sustainability practices even further.

Our on-site bee apiaries, eco-garden, bird boxes and ‘green wall’, are just a few of our latest developments to strengthen the surrounding eco-system.

Solar Energy

We are one of the first UK Commercial and Industrial sites to combine large scale battery storage and rooftop solar panels.

With over 13,860 solar panels, generating over 3 million kWh of electricity, we not only power our business and electric car charging points –  we also pass what we don’t back into the national grid.

Solar Energy

We’re also embracing the circular economy by focusing on reducing, reusing and recycling as much as we can, with 63% of our waste being reused in 2020.

We turn our food waste into fertilisers & electricity, and have a number of recycling schemes in place
for materials such as batteries, toners and confidential shredding.

These schemes are also available to our customers.

Microbusiness Support Programme

Microbusiness Support Programme

Micro, Small or Medium sized businesses are estimated to make up 99.9% of the nation’s business population. However, the failure rate of such businesses are high due to the lack of support and high initial costs in the first few years of the business starting.
In order to play a part in supporting microbusinesses in the UK & Ireland, Lyreco has launched the Lyreco Goodness Microbusiness Support Programme.

Within this programme, 10 successful applicants will receive sponsored support including:

  • 12 month free product and services webshop listing and digital trade plan support
  • Dedicated Webshop Landing Page
  • Preferred payment days
  • Access to Sales Force via Learning and Development

This support equates to £20,000 from Lyreco and around £25,000 in social value (as calculated through the Social Value Portal)
